One of my mind games to get inspired or come up with a gag or cartoon is to play a mind game I call "What if?"
Almost every intergalactic alien invasion involves really hideous monsters. Remember the television show "V"? How about War of the Worlds?
So I asked my self what would we least expect, an invasion by a bunch of clowns?
