CHAPTER 7
IF THEY WANT IT,
WHAT THE HELL, WE WILL BUILD IT!
Lone Tree AV INC
Lone Tree
Colorado
December 19,
2012
Pointing
to the diagram on the conference room table, 30 year old Melvin Poindexter VP
Lone Tree AV Inc, stroked his red mustache and said, “According to Sheldon
Franks, he says he has it on good authority that the Russians have actually made
one.”
Melvin
Poindexter, Vice President of Lone Tree AV Inc and had
been skeptical of Sheldon Franks claims until he contacted his own Russian
source, Boris Bolokhovskis, a Russian-American small business owner of Russian
Tours R Us, in Moscow, Idaho. According
to Boris who was not only a naturalized American Citizen but a registered card
carrying Republican. Boris had told
Melvin that the reason he had immigrated to America in 1988 with his beautiful
young wife Natasha was because of Ronald Reagan’s “TEAR DOWN THIS WALL” speech in Berlin. “I love America! Is this a great country or what?” Boris was always saying to Melvin. Melvin had met Boris while playing golf with
a mutual friend at the very private and exclusive Elks Golf Course in Moscow,
Idaho. “Anyone who can afford to play
this course has to have their ducks in a row and has connections in the right
places”, thought Melvin Poindexter when he first met Boris Bolokhovskis.
Since
their first meeting two years ago, Melvin and his wife Daffney had joined Boris
and his wife, Natasha on a couple trips to Boris’s vacation home in Vail,
Colorado, where the men played golf and the women went shopping.
“Sheldon
Franks, like all government bureaucrats is an idiot!” declared 55 year old Alex
Denniston III, founder and President of Lone Tree AV Inc.
Alex
Denniston formed Lone Tree AV Inc after being fired from his last job as VP
Operations with HVC Inc of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. With his government connections with the
Department of Defense Alex Denniston III, was able to open up shop in Lone Tree
and gather around him other independent creative thinkers. The first product Lone Tree AV Inc had
developed for the Department of the Army was a Lazer devise that was able to
send out a wave of intense heat, enough to melt a melted cheese sandwich at 50
meters. The Army had not gotten back to
Alex as of yet but kept telling him that they would contact him anytime
now.
“What
is their budget for this doohickey, Melvin?”
“Once
Congress gives the green light, the Department of the Interior wants bids to
produce no less than 10,000 units a year for the next ten years. My connections tell me that the lowest bid is
$11,999.99 per unit.”
“What
would our cost to produce this gizmo, Norton?”
24
year old Norton Abernathy, Project director of R & D for Lone Tree AV
Inc. Norton graduated at the top of his
class from UCLA with a Electronic Technology degree at the age of 22 and had
been snapped up by Alex Dennison III with promises of a great future with a up
and coming electronics developing company.
“Our
costs would be $50.00 to $200.00 per unit, depending on how many applications
the units would have. If we were to bid
them at a thousand dollars less than the price as that other company, we would
gross over $11, 000.00 profits on each unit.”
“Caspar,
at this cost how long would the units last in the hands or paws of those bears?”
23
year old Caspar Mendocino, had been in the same class as Norton Abernathy and
they had both coasted through college not needing to study for the exams, they were able to hack into the university and get all their
exams and answers two weeks before the tests were given. At the university, Norton and Caspar had
shared the same dorm room and after joining Lone Tree AV Inc., they become room
mates and together they cruised the seedy sides of Lone tree and Centennial, Colorado,
looking for young women to party with.
Is this a great country or what?
“The
Bears would destroy any thing you put in there paws within 60 seconds top.”
Alex
Dennison III smiled a sly little smile.
“Well
it looks like this could be a real money maker for our little company,”
observed Alex Dennison,” not only do we stand to make lots of money on the original units, but it looks like we could be replacing them faster than we
can build them.”
A
good laugh was had by all in the room.
Looking
at Elton Weiner, Alex Dennison asked, “How much of kick- back is the program
director demanding?”
40
year old Elton Weiner, Director of Financial Operations for Lone Tree AV Inc.
picked up the copy of the Email he had received from Leonard Badowski the day
before.
“Actually
Mister Badowski makes no mention of a kick back, in my communications with him.
But as you know from past experience, they will be expecting a “Donation” to
their favorite charity in their name of $1,000.00 per unit.”
“What’s
the name of the charity?”
“The
same as last time, The BNPM T&E fund.”
“Travel
and Party money, I suppose. You know, I
bet those people make more money off the kick backs than their pay checks! Oh well, they provide us with a pay check, so
I guess we should be kind to the dip sticks.”
To be continued tomorrow
